Typically, in South Africa, from start to finish, the trademark registration process can take anywhere from 2 to 4 years, from the point of filing your application to the completion of the registration process.

The typical breakdown of the timeline is:

  • 12-24 months for initial examination by the Registrar
  • 3 months for publication in the Patent Journal for opposition
  • 12-18 months after opposition period for final registration
